How Can Ayurveda Encourage Hair Growth?

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world's oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India.

It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to promote good health, not fight disease. But treatments may be geared toward specific health problems.

Despite being over 3,000 years old, Ayurveda offers quite an impressive number of treatment strategies for optimizing hair health, all of which remain relevant today.

Ayurveda & Hair Growth

There are many different types of hair out there, and we all want what’s best for ours. But hair loss is a common concern for many men and women. There are many reasons your hair may fall out, from genetics and vitamin deficiencies, to hormone changes. Some medical conditions, such as thyroid disease, may also cause hair to thin or fall out.

Pollution, chemical based shampoos and poor quality of water are factors that are making our hair from bad to worse. Hair fall and poor hair growth are common problems faced by people of this generation.

There’s no magic bullet for growing hair, but research has shown some herbs may slow hair loss or help promote new growth. Ayurveda Expert Dr. Ashutosh Gautam suggests few herbs and foods that can come handy for hair growth and reduce hair fall.

Ayurvedic hair care employs both products and treatment strategies that are 100% natural.  The Ayurvedic tradition is intrinsically holistic. So whether you choose a topical treatment for the hair itself, a more systemic approach, or a combination of the two, Ayurveda aims to address the root cause of the problem—which often originates well beneath the surface.
